I live alone, in a small 1000 square foot home in Berlin. Every 3 months I get a bill for $116.88 for my sewage. My bill for sewage exceeds the cost of my ex wife's bill for water AND sewer. My bill for sewage (yearly) is almost as much as fuel oil to heat my house for a year.
It frustrates me to know that I have neighbors with 5-6 people living in their house and they pay the same as I do for sewage.
I know that you can't meter sewage, but a flat rate for everyone seems a bit unfair for those who have smaller houses.

I've considered going with public water so I can reduce my sewer costs (and improve my water), but my well pump is practically new, and the town says that I'm looking at $7-$10k to get water to the house. How does one go about trying to convince the town to change the policy on how the sewer rate is calculated (I feel like it should be based on the square footage of your home or number of bathrooms)?
It's hard to conceive of budgeting nearly $500 a year for sewer for a single resident living in Berlin.
