YMCA Steps up Program Offerings in Berlin

Since the 1960’s, the New Britain-Berlin YMCA has been proud to serve Berlin children and their families. Almost 50 years after the first programs, the YMCA opened a 112 student facility on Chamberlain Highway offering the very best in infant, toddler and preschool on January 7th. Previously, the Y in Berlin operated a preschool at 362 Main Street. With the opening of the new facility, families are able to enjoy spacious classrooms, indoor play space and multiple fully equipped playgrounds.

Early childhood education is what the Y has been committed to for decades, with the belief that the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for future success. The YMCA staffs its youth development programs with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, and the need children have to feel connected and supported. At the Y, babies develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their world, and school-age kids make friends, learn new skills, participate in team building and do homework. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

As part of the YMCAs reinforced commitment to Berlin, they are moving their Before/After Care from Mooreland Hill School to the Marjorie Moore School Age and Teen Center at 362 Main Street in Kensington, effective March 3rd. Thanks to a partnership with Mooreland Hill, the YMCA was able to conduct the program at the prestigious Independent Day School after years in the Berlin Public Schools. According to YMCA CEO, Rich McCarty, “Mooreland Hill remains a valued partner and friend to the YMCA as host for Youth Sports Saturday and YMCA Camp Thundermoon in the summer.” Mooreland Hill’s Headmaster, Michael Dooman, is pleased to continue the partnership with the YMCA. “It is no surprise that two great organizations like Mooreland and the Y have come together to support youth development in our area. After all, we both have been serving Berlin for a combined total of 130 years.”
