This week Patch has been bringing you 12 days of shopping local ideas based on the 12 Days of Christmas song. Day 6 is “Six Geese a Layin’” which is not a great gift idea for some. But giving someone a gift from a local farm such as goose or duck eggs, fresh-made jams or jellies are unique and help support local commerce.

For every $100 you spend at local businesses, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain only $43 stays in the community.
