Allie-Brennan Announces Reelection Bid

BETHEL, CT — State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan officially announced that he will seek re-election. Democrat Allie-Brennan was first elected in 2018 to represent Connecticut's 2nd Assembly District, which includes portions of Bethel, Danbury, Redding, and Newtown.

"We are at a pivotal moment in Connecticut and, with your steadfast support, I hope to continue to proudly represent the residents of the 2nd District in the Connecticut State Legislature," said Allie-Brennan. "That's why I’m running for re-election – to build on the successes of my first term and to make sure Bethel, Danbury, Redding and Newtown have the dedicated representation they deserve."

Allie-Brennan cites among his accomplishments securing a $104,000 grant for the Danbury Police Activities League; $100,000 for the Danbury Public Library; a $33,000 budget line item for theBethel Youth Booster Club; and negotiating additional funding for Bethel, Danbury, Redding, and Newtown schools and an expenditure increase for the Teacher Retirement Fund.

Vice chair of the Energy and Technology Committee and co-chair of the Bipartisan Clean Energy Caucus, Allie-Brennan helped pass solar energy legislation that ensures Connecticut residents will continue to have solar options in their energy choices and protects more than 2,200 solar energy jobs. He led a group of over two dozen legislators in calling on Governor Ned Lamont to oppose the construction of a gas-fired power plant in the town of Killingly, and was designated an "Environmental Champion" by the League of Conservation Voters.

During his first term, Allie-Brennan proposed legislation to eliminate the $250 Business Entity Tax, co-sponsored legislation that makes changes to existing laws and expands what local breweries like Bethel-based Broken Symmetry can sell, wrote and passed three LGBTQ related bills, and was an out-spoken opponent of tolls.

"I promised to tirelessly represent ALL of the residents of the 2nd District, reaching across the aisle," Allie-Brennan said in a release. "I've done that. I’ve brought the 2nd District to the table and have brought home millions in taxpayer dollars. I’ve striven to be transparent and accessible. I've hosted well over a dozen community conversations on issues ranging from affordable housing to the opioid epidemic. Much has been accomplished, but there's so much left to do. Together, absent the partisan rhetoric, mean-spiritedness and divisiveness that define so much of our national political dialogue, we’ll keep the 2nd District first."
