BETHEL, CT — Bethel officials say the town is moving closer to finalizing the purchase of the former Wells Fargo building on Greenwood Avenue, with plans to potentially transform the property into a community hub.

In an update to residents last week, town officials said Bethel has completed its due diligence for the purchase of 159 Greenwood Ave. and is hoping to close on the property soon.

According to officials, the town plans to seek proposals to redevelop the building into what it described as an “innovative community hub.”

Potential uses for the property could include workforce development programs, coworking and business support space, arts and cultural programming, entrepreneurship initiatives, makerspace production and other civic uses, officials said.

Town officials said the goal is to create a space that blends “professional development, creative expression, and civic engagement” for broad public benefit.
