Dogs Rescued After Fire Destroys Bethel Garage, Damages Home

BETHEL, CT — Bethel police officers rescued several dogs from a downtown structure fire Tuesday afternoon that destroyed a garage used for dog kennels and damaged part of a nearby home, according to fire officials.

The Bethel and Stony Hill fire departments responded to the fire at approximately 2 p.m.

According to the Bethel Fire Department, no people or animals were injured in the incident.

Fire officials said the blaze destroyed most of the garage, where the dogs' kennels were located, and spread to the rear of the home. Crews were able to stop the fire before it spread to the rest of the house.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Stony Hill and Brookfield fire departments.

The fire was one of several incidents that kept emergency crews busy across town Tuesday afternoon. In a social media post, the Bethel Fire Department said firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel responded to multiple emergencies within a span of about an hour, including motor vehicle crashes, a brush fire and several fire alarm activations.
