Overnight Bethel Fire Drew Massive Mutual Aid Response

BETHEL, CT — Firefighters from Bethel and neighboring communities battled an overnight commercial building fire on Turkey Plain Road that drew a large mutual aid response from across the region.

According to Bethel Fire & EMS, crews were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday for an automatic fire alarm at the commercial property.

First responders discovered an active fire and began suppression efforts and established a water supply. Firefighters from the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company assisted with suppression and ventilation operations.

Because of the size of the structure and the potential for a larger incident, departments from Danbury, Brookfield, New Milford, Redding, Georgetown and several other communities responded to provide manpower, water tankers, ladder trucks, firefighter safety teams and station coverage.

No injuries were reported.

Bethel Emergency Management and the Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the fire's cause.

Fire officials said the building was unoccupied at the time and credited the automatic fire alarm system with alerting dispatchers and initiating a rapid response.
