Area Departments Battle Fire That Damages 3 Bethel Businesses

Firefighters from Bethel, Danbury, and Brookfield spent an hour on scene of a fire that started in a Greenwood. Ave. upholstery business.

BETHEL, CT — Three area businesses were damaged by a fire Thursday in which firefighters from three local departments were called in to assist with limiting damage from what officials are referring to as a “stubborn fire.”

Firefighters were called to Bethel Upholstery on Greenwood Ave. just before noon to fight a fire that dispatchers told firefighters was involved in the ceiling of the building, officials said.

All three businesses in the vicinity of the upholstery business, officials said, with the extent of the fire damage being sustained mainly in the second floor of the upholstery business. The other two businesses sustained smoke and water damage, according to published reports.

Trucks from the volunteer departments in Danbury and Brookfield were called in to assist Bethel firefighters, all of whom were on scene for just more than an hour. Firefighters from the departments worked to contain "roof operations" as well as an "interior attack", according to the Danbury Fire Department.

The fire remains under investigation by the Bethel Fire Marshal’s Office.
