Bethel 6th Grade Girls Travel Advances to Semi Finals of FCBL

The Bethel Girls 6th Grade travel basketball team started the FCBL playoff last night at the Danbury PAL against New Fairfield employing the same approach that has served them well all year: team defense, patient offense and contributions from all players. 

That formula resulted in Bethel being the “B” League regular season champions and being awarded a six seed in the “A” League Championships. This week the Lady Wildcats proved they belonged, as they upended a talented New Fairfield squad by the score of 29-22, to advance to Sunday Semi-Finals at Weston High at 1:40 p.m.

After a trailing at the close of the first quarter 8-6, Bethels defense found its rhythm, which led to and 11 point second quarter and a 17-10 halftime lead which they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

Bethel was led on offense by Amanda Towey who scored 14 points and grabbed  six rebounds. Meggy Dolan, Sam Manfreda and Sofia Orrico combined for 11 points while the remainder of the Bethel squad employed a strong defensive effort that created 19 steals which led to numerous scoring opportunities for Bethels offense.

Bethel will face the winner of the Darien-Wilton game that is being played on Saturday afternoon in Sunday’s semi-final game.
