Bethel actress Lucy Shea stars in Sherman Playhouse Prodution.
Bethel actress Lucy Shea plays Elaine Harper in The Sherman Playhouses production of Arsenic and Old Lace directed by Robin Frome.
Lucy Shea is a BHS graduate class of 2013 and is currently pursing a dual degree at ECSU in Theater/Political Science. Shea is a local multi-award nominated actress receiving nominations for Best Female Actress in a Play from The Halo Award’s organization and The Irene Ryan Acting scholarship foundation. Shea also has studied theater in the summer of 2014 in London with different professional acting troupe's and she will be attending Edinburgh Napier University in the fall of 2015. She was recently cast in Robin Frome’s (New Milford) production of Arsenic and Old Lace at the Sherman Playhouse, the play was written by J Kesselring in 1939. Shea is playing Elaine Harper, who is the feisty yet sweet fiancée of the play’s main character Mortimer Brewster.
The play takes place in 1940’s Brooklyn in the home of the Brewster family. The family is comprised of two spinster aunt’s who take in any lost soul looking for a room, but their lodgers mysteriously disappear in the middle of the night. Also in the family is a brother who think’s he is Teddy Roosevelt and Mortimer Brewster who is a dramatic critic faced with dealing with his families crazy homicidal antics all while debating a recent marriage proposal. Arsenic and Old Lace is one of Americas most performed comedies and has been for 75+ years.
The play opens on July 10th at 8pm, the rest of the show dates are as follows- July 10,11,17,18, 19, 24,25,30, 31 and August 2nd. July 9th is the half price preview night, and there are matiness on July 19th and August 2nd. Ticket’s can be purchased online at www.shermanplayers.org or at the ticket box office before the performances. Prices are - Adult tickets=$22 Child(under 12)=$11 and Student ticket’s =$20 with a valid student ID.
