Legnard tells Patch why he should be elected to a seat on the Planning & Zoning Commission

BETHEL, CT — The 2019 municipal election is heating up in Bethel and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.
Bethel Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.
Republican Robert Legnard, 77, is running for re-election to the Planning & Zoning Commission, where he has served for eight years. He has also been a member of the Police Commission, Board of Selectmen, Zoning Board of Appeals, Charter Revision Commission, Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority and the Housatonic Valley Council of Elected Officials. He is retired from UPS, and an Army veteran with a business degree from Sacred Heart University.

The single most pressing issue facing our town/district is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Orderly positive growth for the town to increase tax base. To Do this I intend to implement the TOD District, the Route 6 Plan, continue to update zoning regulations and adhere to our plan of conservation and development in process presently soon to be enacted.

Continue to preserve the New England appeal of Downtown and conserve as much open space as possible.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Involved in re-writing present zoning regs, TOD Plan, Rte 6 Study Plan and championing the purchase or donation of many acres of open space.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
My decisions will be in the best interest of the people of Bethel.
