Bethel First Selectman Gets a Raise

The Board of Finance determined he was underpaid based upon other salaries in the region.

BETHEL, CT — The Board of Finance has voted to give the first selectman an 8.9 percent raise, setting his salary now at $95.000, the News Times has reported.

First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker saw his earnings hiked last year as well, when his pay jumped from $84,718 to $87,259.

The board's rationale for the pay increase was based upon the salary ranges for fcomparable area towns. The first selectman in Guilford earned $111,000, while the Southbury first selectman received $101,000. In Monroe he made just under $91,000, and in Madison and East Lyme first selectmen earned $100,000 and $99,450, respectively, in the 2017-18 fiscal year.
