Bethel First Selectman Thanks Gov. Malloy & Director of Economic Development for Grant

Bethel will receive $290,149 to make improvements to the downtown shopping area.

On Monday, the Office of Gov. Malloy announced that 13 Connecticut municipalities are receiving funds to help improve their business districts. Bethel will receive $290,149.

Matt Knickerbocker, first selectman of Bethel, told Patch he is “delighted to hear that we won this grant” and wanted to publicly thank two people for helping to secure it.

“First I want to thank Janice Chrzescijanek, Director of Economic Development. She worked for months putting this application together and worked with the downtown property owners to identify their priorities to beautify the downtown and make safety and accessibility improvements.”

Knickerbocker also thanked Gov. Malloy “who has been very generous with the Town of Bethel.”

“This is a great boon for us and this grant will be used to expand our streetscape plan. Some of the original plans go back 15 years,” he said.

Knickerbocker said the funds for improvements will pick up where the old plans left off. A streetscape sidewalk will be built across the from the Municipal Center near the library. There will also be pedestrian ramps which will enhance Front Street.

“We’re very excited to hear about this grant,” he said.
