Bethel Flushing Hydrants Through Beginning Of July

BETHEL, CT — The Bethel Water Department has begun a program of flushing hydrants that is expected to take approximately five weeks to complete. The schedule is below, and on the town website.

Hydrant flushing is necessary to improve water quality and fire protection throughout the system, according to a news release from the town. Hydrant flushing may cause temporary discolored water and/or pressure fluctuations. The discolored water is due to the removal of accumulated sediment, predominantly naturally occurring minerals.

Residents are advised to check the color of their water before using and avoid washing clothes or using their hot water during periods of temporary discolored water. If discolored water is experienced, flush from the cold tap in the bathtub or outside spigot until it clears.
