Bethel Gets Ready to Shop & Stroll
Bethel's Shop & Stroll, this Saturday from 11-4, has activities for shoppers, strollers, music lovers and children.
Bethel’s Summer Shop & Stroll takes place Saturday, July 15, from 11 to 4 (rain or shine). Stores along Greenwood Avenue and in the Stony Hill section will participate with special offerings, as will the restaurants Edison Kitchen and Broken Symmetry. Shoppers will also find a range of entrepreneurial vendors and meet representatives of not-for-profit organizations. There will be musical entertainment as well as activities for children. Summer Shop & Stroll is sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank and the Bethel Chamber of Commerce.
Byrd’s Books, the Toy Room and other Greenwood stores will hold sidewalk sales with deep discounts on select merchandise. From 11-2, Nicky Zooks, young author and Bethel food ambassador, will be at Byrd’s Books to sign his new book, Will My Idea Work? There will also be a “gally grab” (free advance copy in paperback) with every book purchase. The Toy Room will host a BRIO Train Day from 11-3, with children building wooden train sets. Prizes will be awarded every hour, and at 3 a BRIO grand prize (valued at $500) will be awarded. UK Gourmet, in Redwood Plaza on Stony Hill, will have summer specials from across the pond.
Vendors offering goods and services ranging from crafts to cookies will be stationed along Greenwood Avenue. They include Berty’s Gifts by Liberty, Gemini Dream Jewelry Design, Royal Choice Global Transportation, T’s Italian Ice, and Sugar Blooms Cookies, among others.

On the Bethel Library lawn shoppers can learn about many not-for-profits, including Bethel Garden Club, Bethel Historical Society, Bethel Arts, Ben’s Bell Project, and two animal rescue organizations, DAWS and Happily Furever After. Also on the lawn, Tim Roche of Brown Lab Sound Studios will entertain children with music and games from 11-4, and Family Fun Zone will be on the library patio with children’s activities from 12-3.
At P.T. Barnum Square, musical performances take center stage. Acoustic musician David Lowenadler will be on from 12-2 and singer/songwriter John Fazio Jr. from 2-4.
