Bethel Girl Scout is Working To Keep Residents Warm While Earning Gold Award
Lori Robertson, a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and a Bethel Girl Scout, is working to earn her Gold Award.
A Bethel Girl Scout has taken it upon herself to repair the wood ministry of the Bethel United Methodist Church after noticing it has recently fallen in disrepair.
Lori Robertson, a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and a Bethel Girl Scout, is working to earn her Gold Award with the wood ministry project. The ministry was built on the idea that the people who need to take the wood do not have to go through a long process of filling out forms and waiting on approvals. They take what they need from the free standing shed which is located behind the church.
BUMC Youth Pastor John Esposito has managed the wood ministry for many years and along with Robertson, they will repair the stand. Youth volunteers in 9th-12th grades are needed to assist on August 15 (August 29, rain date) to replace pallets and boards within the bins and the shed. When it’s repaired, it will hold more wood for more families to use, and be stable for years to come.

Another part of Robertson’s Girl Scout Gold Award Project is to work with the community and town hall to raise awareness to allow more wood to be donated so people can stay warm throughout the winter. She has made pamphlets that will be available soon that includes some fire safety tips. Along with this pamphlet, she is working with the town to see if it is possible to get the wood that’s cut down after extreme weather, to be available as a donation for this wood ministry.
