Bethel Girl Scouts Announce Opening of Bethel Bark Park
Bethel Girl Scout Troop 50711 is happy to announce that the Bethel Bark Park dog park is now open at Meckaeur Park.
Bethel Girl Scout Troop 50711 is happy to announce that the Bethel Bark Park dog park is now open at Meckaeur Park. The idea for a dog park was a group effort and done as the troop’s silver award, the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn.
“We all really wanted to do something that would help the community and be long lasting. Every member of my Girl Scout troop at the time, aside from me, owned a dog. We had heard note of other towns beginning a dog park, and we thought a dog park would be an excellent addition to the town of Bethel,” Scout member Allie Hermansen told Patch.
The project began in the winter of 2014, when the girls were in seventh grade. The park officially opened on May 30, 2015. The main source of their fundraising to open the park came from a mural. If a donor gave $25 or more, their dog’s name would be painted on a paw print on the mural next to the dog park. In total the troop raised over $8,500.

The troop plans on installing benches, a shade structure and landscaping. The hours of the dog park are from dawn to dusk, the same hours as Meckauer Park.
