Bethel Man Accused of Harassing, Throwing Water Bottle at Another Car On Highway: Police

The man is accused of cutting the other car off and following it through city streets.

DANBURY, CT — Police say that a Bethel man was charged after he was accused of harassing a man while driving on the highway on I-84 last week.

The arrest was made after a man accused Jason Austin, 35, of tailgating him, cutting him off and throwing a water bottle at his car. The man also told police that Austin got out of his car and proceeded to follow the man through city streets before he was arrested.

The man and his passenger told Police they were driving west on I-84 at around 11:30 a.m. on March 13 when Austin's black Ford Explorer started tailgating them. To sign up for Bethel breaking news alerts and more, click here.

Austin later proceeded to cut the man off forcing him to slam on his breaks, which continued for around five to ten minutes before Austin threw the water bottle, police allege.

The men told police that when both cars got off I-84 at exit 5, Austin got out of the Explorer and started approaching the other car. The man took off quickly and called 911.

He flagged down a Danbury police officer on Main Street, and Austin was located shortly thereafter.

The Bethel man is charged with driving with intent to harass and breach of peace in the second degree. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Danbury Superior Court on March 23.
