BETHEL, CT — A Bethel man avoided jail after pleading no contest in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a former volunteer firefighter last year, according to a report.

Andrew Hitchcock, 66, was sentenced Tuesday to three years of probation and 50 hours of community service after receiving a suspended three-year prison sentence, the News-Times reported.

Hitchcock was originally charged with evading responsibility involving death following the Sept. 22, 2025, crash on Nashville Road that killed Michael Rieve. During Tuesday's sentencing, members of Rieve's family spoke about the lasting impact of his death, according to the News-Times.
