Bethel Man Riding Stolen Dirt Bike Led Police on Chase: State Police

Police say they saw the man doing wheelies while assisting with a disabled vehicle on I-84.

DANBURY, CT — A Bethel man was arrested after police say he led them on a brief pursuit while riding a stolen dirt bike Saturday afternoon, according to State Police. Jose Javier Garcia-Polanco, 20, was stopped at a dead end road in Danbury at around 3 p.m. after police had found that the dirt bike had been reported stolen in 2016, police say.

While helping with a broken down vehicle in the shoulder of I-84 west near exit 4, troopers saw two dirt bikes doing wheelies as they passed the troopers, state police say. A trooper pulled out behind the bikes and tried to stop them, but they failed to stop and exited the highway onto Mill Plain Road in Danbury.

One of the dirt bikes turned onto a dead end road, boxing himself. Troopers later found that the dirt bike had been reported stolen out of New Milford in 2016. Police say they also found the second dirt bike rider, who was issued an infraction for several violations.
