Bethel Police Arrest Log For Feb. 2-15

This public information from the Bethel Police Department is accurate as of Feb. 15, 2023. Items reflect charges filed, not convictions.

BETHEL, CT — A couple of high-speed chases and an assault were at the top of the Bethel Police blotter the last two weeks.

On Feb. 12, at around 7:46 p.m. police were dispatched to the lobby of The Microtel at 80 Benedict Road for a disturbance complaint. According to their report, Charlie Simao, 35, of Rocky Glen Road in Danbury, assaulted the victim, pulling her hair and causing her minor injuries. Police charged Simao with disorderly conduct and third-degree assault, and scheduled him to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Feb. 21.

On Feb. 2 at 2:49 p.m., police observed a white Jaguar with a registration that they knew from a previous and unrelated encounter belonged to a different car. After checking with The Connecticut On-Line Law Enforcement Communications Teleprocessing System, police confirmed the registration belonged to a blue Camaro, and had been suspended. Police attempted to stop the Jaguar, but the driver evaded them and led police on a high-speed chase eastbound on Plumtrees Road. Officers broke off the pursuit, and instead waited for Samir Zaky, 48, at the Topstone Drive address listed in the online database.

When Zaky returned home, police say he spied their cruiser and "recklessly reversed into the intersection of Topstone Drive and Grenwood Avenue." Police again gave pursuit, and again broke it off due to the dangerous nature of Zaky's driving.

Police placed Zaky's home under surveillance in an unmarked vehicle. Later, Bethel police saw him leave the residence on foot. Zaky began to flee when he saw the unmarked car, but was caught, and placed under arrest.

Zaky became "verbally and physically uncooperative" when he was taken to Bethel Police HQ, according to the police report.

Police charged Zaky with engaging in police pursuit, two counts of reckless driving, driving under suspension, misuse of plates, driving without insurance, failure to drive right, unsafe backing, unsafe passing and fingerprinting refusal. He was unable to post the $10,000 bond, and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Feb. 3.
