Bethel Police Arrest Log For May 9-22

BETHEL, CT — Assault and disorderly conduct were at the top of the Bethel Police Department's arrest log last week.

On May 18 at about 4:15 p.m., a Bethel police officer saw a vehicle moving over the speed limit in the area of Route 302/Kellogg Street in Bethel. The officer stopped the car, and in the investigation that followed determined the motorist, Marcelo Martinez, 41, or Driftaway Road in Danbury, was driving with a suspended license and with insufficient insurance. Martinez was charged with those offenses, along with speeding, and released with a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on June 1.

On May 15, at about 12:28 a.m., police were called to investigate a dispute at a Plumtrees Road residence in Bethel. Following their investigation, police charged the resident, Jun Ortiz, 36, with disorderly conduct and scheduled him to appear in Danbury Superior Court the next day.

Police say the victim of an assault reported the attack shortly after noon on May 12. Officers investigated the report, and say that Kurt Spletzer, 34, of Linda Lane in Bethel, admitted to striking the victim with his fist while also striking them with a pillow during an altercation. The victim suffered minor injuries, according to police. Spletzer was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, and scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on May 15.
