Bethel Police Station Cost Overruns to be Discussed

The new station is nearly $889,000 over budget.

BETHEL, CT --- The Board of Selectmen will meet again this evening, Monday, April 16, to discuss the cost overrun in the construction of the police station.

The project is nearly $889,000 over its $13.5 million budget. Blame for the overrun had been placed on unexpectedly high costs of air conditioning and plumbing.

If the funding is not approved, the budget for landscaping would need to be reduced, and a proposed firing range would not be built.

Ultimately, there will still need to be a public referendum before any unbudgeted funds were made available for the project. Voters approved the $13.5 million project in 2015, after rejecting a $14.1 million proposal the year before.

The meeting will be held in Room A of the municipal center. at 7 p.m.
