Bethel Proposes Hikes to Health Department Fees

The current fees for the services provided by the department have not changed in two decades.

BETHEL, CT — The town will be holding a public hearing on the proposed hikes in fees for restaurant licenses, septic system applications and other inspections managed by the health department, the News Times is reporting.

The current fees for the services provided by the department have not changed in two decades. Over that period, the number of businesses and residential population have increased, as has the number of state regulations demanding the department's attention.

In some cases the new fee structure will allow the town to contract out for services, such as septic repair and some inspections, which would result in faster response time.
