Bethel's Byrd's Books Celebrates 7th Anniversary

Customers are invited to bake the cake.

From Byrd's Books: On Sunday, December 9th, Bethel's Byrd's Books will celebrate its 7th birthday with an afternoon of fun and baking. From 2:00pm to 4:00pm, join owner Alice Hutchinson and crew as they welcome writer Rose Levy Beranbaum to join them to discuss her latest cookbook, Rose’s Baking Basics: 100 Essential Recipes, with More Than 600 Step-By-Step Photos. "But who will bake the cake?", you ask. The award-winning author of the The Baking Bible, an International Association of Culinary Professional Best Baking Book of the Year, and The Cake Bible, now in its 54th printing, hopes you will! If you choose to buy the book and bake for the event from the book before you join in, you will receive a $20.00 gift certificate to Byrd’s Books when you bring your goodie and book to the event. The author will get the chance to sample your efforts, and so will the rest of the group. The event is free, but registration is strongly suggested due to limited space. In 2017, Rose Levy Beranbaum's The Cake Bible was inducted into the Culinary Classics Hall of Fame. It also has been listed by the James Beard Foundation as one of the top 13 baking books on its "Essential Book List." Her book, Rose's Heavenly Cakes, won the International Association of Culinary Professionals Cookbook of the Year for 2010. For multiple years she was a contributing editor to Food Arts magazine and writes regularly for the Washington Post, Fine Cooking, Reader's Digest, andBride's. Her popular blog, realbakingwithrose.com, has created an international community of bakers where you can visit Rose Levy Beranbaum and join in the discussion on all things baking. Boxes will be available for taking the fruits of all the baking efforts home for the holidays, so Byrd's Books encourages folks to bake small items like cookies to easily share. The Boxes can be purchased for $10, which will be directly donated to DAWS, Bethel's local no-kill shelter. Through New Year’s Day, Byrd's Books will be open on a holiday schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10:00am to 6pm; Thursdays, 10:00am to 8:00pm; and Sundays, 12 noon to 4pm. Note the shop hours on Monday, December 24th are 10:00am to 3:00pm; Wednesday, December 26th, 12 noon to 6:00pm; and Monday, December 31st, 10:00am to 4:00pm. Byrd's Books will be closed on Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25th, and New Year's Day, January 1st, 2019.

Byrd's Books' new location has on-street parking. Municipal parking is available at the Bethel Public Library across the street and the "Old Train Station" which is where Broken Symmetry now resides.
