Bethel's Byrd's Books Moves Up

The popular bookstore is vacating its current digs at 126 Greenwood Avenue.

BETHEL, CT -- Byrd's Books on Greenwood Avenue is moving up.

The popular bookstore will vacate its current digs at 126 Greenwood Avenue and move into #178 on the same street, taking space adjoining The Toy Room in the Opera House building across the street from the Bethel Public Library.

Alice Hutchinson, the owner of Byrd's Books, gave the rationale for the move on the store's website: "The rent is more affordable. We discovered that much of our business is coming from author events and off-site book vending. That although this new space has the same square footage (much less storage) we could continue to manage a brick-and-mortar storefront if our costs were reduced."

The store is looking for volunteers to assist with the move, set to commence Tuesday, August 14. The store plans on remaining open continuously except for a few days in which computers will be transferred.

Byrd's Books is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sundays 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. For more information, visit byrdsbooks.com
