Bethel's Matt Barnes Makes Boston Red Sox's Top 20 Prospects for 2015
Barnes is a former UConn baseball player and Bethel High School graduate.

According to MinorLeagueBall.com, Bethel’s Matt Barnes was named #8 of Top 20 prospects for the Boston Red Sox for 2015.
Barnes, a right-handed pitcher, was given a B- grade by the 2015 Prospect Book. His posted stats are as follows:
- 3.95 ERA
- 103/46 K/BB in 128 innings in Triple-A
- Shoulder trouble early on
- “More of a reliever than a starter”
- Good fastball and change-up
- Breaking stuff remains erratic
According to the website, “Grade B prospects have a good chance to enjoy successful careers. Some will develop into stars, some will not. Most end up spending several years in the majors, at the very least in a marginal role.”

Barnes, a former UConn baseball player and Bethel High School graduate, was promoted to the major leagues by the Boston Red Sox on Monday, Sept. 8.
The 24-year-old was a first-round draft pick of the Red Sox in 2011. In 2011 he was named Big East Pitcher of the Year.
