Connecticut Facility Ranked Among Nation’s Top Hospitals
Fortune/IBM Watson Health rankings of the 40 best teaching and 60 community hospitals include a health care facility in Connecticut.
CONNECTICUT — Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford has been ranked among the nation’s best teaching hospitals in the Fortune/IBM Watson Health’s latest ranking.
The rankings released Tuesday show Saint Francis Hospital taking the No. 14 spot among best teaching hospitals.
In all, IBM Watson Health ranked the top 40 teaching hospitals and top 60 community hospitals based on Medicare cost reports, other data from Medicare providers, and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, according to the rankings' methodology.

Saint Francis Hospital received four stars out of five for clinical outcomes, five stars for operation efficiency, four stars for patient experience and five stars for financial health.
The community health survey performance, a category added to the rankings criteria for the first time this year, is 100 percent at Saint Francis, which has been in the Fortune/IBM Watson Health top 100 for nine years. The facility is the only hospital in Connecticut to earn a spot on the list.

St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was the top major teaching hospital, while Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado, is the top non-major teaching hospital.
Fortune/IBM Watson Health’s community hospital rankings were divided into large, medium and small categories. Elmhurst Hospital in Elmhurst, Illinois, had the No. 1 ranking among large community hospitals, with Dublin Methodist Hospital in Dublin, Ohio, taking the top spot among medium hospitals and Mercy Health - Tiffin Hospital the best among small hospitals.
Additionally, Fortune/IBM Watson Health ranked the top five large, medium and small health systems in the nation. The Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, took the No. 1 spot among large health systems, the study found, while Edward-Elmhurst Health in Naperville, Illinois, was No. 1 among medium hospital systems and Asante, in Medford, Oregon, was the highest ranked among small hospital systems.
