Cops Nab Bethel Woman for DUI

She caught their attention for failing to properly illuminate her license plate.

BETHEL, CT — Police in Darien have charged a local woman with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Darien police observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee operating without a light illuminating the license early Saturday morning. They pursued the SUV from Tokeneke Road in Darien onto I-95 heading southbound from exit 12, where they clocked it at 75 mph while passing another vehicle on the right.

The officers pulled the SUV over and interviewed the driver, Alison Vitolo, 31, of Shelley Road in Bethel. The police report they detected signs of alcohol use, and that Vitolo admitted consuming alcohol during the evening hours.

Vitolo failed a standardized field sobriety test, was placed under arrest, and was transported to Darien Police HQ. There she submitted to two in-custody breath tests. The first test showed a result of .0951 and the second showed a result of .0898.

Vitolo was charged with DUI and failure to display a readable license plate. She was released on $300 bond, had her license suspended for 24 hours, and was scheduled for a court appearance on Oct. 30.
