Fall In The Connecticut River Valley

Great Views and fun things to do in the Connecticut River Valley

Many of us think that all the great fall foliage and other great things to do require you to drive north for several hours, but I say no. I say, head east and check out some great things to do in the Connecticut River Valley. The Ct River Valley is probably the best kept secret in Connecticut, but it shouldn’t be. Here are just a few things to do in Essex.

The Connecticut River Museum, located at 67 Main Street , is dedicated to the maritime history, as well as the diverse eco-system of the Connecticut River. It features exhibits, as well as the art and photography of the Ct River. Here is the fall lineup of programs. For more information about the CRM, just follow this link!

The schooner Mary E is gearing up for yet another great fall season of cruises on the Ct River. The hills of the valley are the perfect canvas for the incredible foliage that is autumn in New England. This is without a doubt, one of the best ways to take a fall foliage excursion in all of New England. The Mary E sets sail daily (except Wednesdays) at 1:30PM and 3:30PM. This is a 1 1/2 hour cruise. If you want a truly romantic evening, join us for a sunset cruise. This is a 2 hour sail, so bring a bottle of wine, and a picnic dinner! Reservations are strongly recommended for all Fall Cruises, and can be made here!

The 2015 Fall Ball fundraiser for the Connecticut River Museum will be hosted by WFSB’s Scot Haney and held on the waterfront grounds of the Museum, Saturday, October 17 at 6:00 pm. The Honorary Chairperson is Geoff Paul.

The Ivoryton Playhouse

Most people have not heard of Ivoryton, but it is one of three “villages” that comprise the town of Essex. Located on the west side of town, Ivoryton is a very cool place, and one that you can just park (for free!) and have a nice lunch or dinner, check out some very cool stores, and then catch a show at The Ivoryton Playhouse. Starting on September 23rd, and running until the 11th October is “Little Shop of Horrors”. This sci-fi musical comedy is just a great show for the whole family! From Ocotber 28th until the 15th of November, “Liberace” takes the stage. The show covers the life and times of one of the greatest entertainers to have taken the stage. For more information, or to purchase tickets, just follow this link to the Ivoryton Playhouse website.
