Former Bethel Man Allegedly Bilked Investors of $300K
Court records showed the 22-year-old Danbury man spent over $150,000 of the $300,000 he collected on his personal credit card bills.

A former Bethel resident who operated an online business called CT Wholesale collected over $300,000 from investors, promising big returns, but returned less than $40,000 to them, according to the News Times.
Alexander Bergen, 22, of Danbury, told investors he could help them make money and would use it to buy products for resale. Investors were led to believe they would receive their principal back with a profit. Instead, court documents showed that Bergen spent over $150,000 to pay his personal credit card bills.
According to the paper, his sentencing will take place on Oct. 14. If convicted he will have to pay a fine of more than $500,000 and could face up to 10 years in prison.
