Obituary: Gina S. Clarizio, 73, Of Bethel: Restaurateur

Gina opened Taormina Restaurant in Danbury in 2000, and retired in 2015.

BETHEL, CT — Gina S. Clarizio, 73, of Bethel, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2022 after a lengthy illness.

Gina was born on November 1, 1948 to the late Vito and Maria (Farella) Clarizio in New York City. She graduated from St Gabriel’s High School in New Rochelle, NY and began her career as a bank teller at Chemical Bank in Mount Vernon. Gina had one son, Victor, who she cherished dearly. Gina attended Naugatuck Community College, graduating from the study of Food and Wine Dynamics and opened Taormina Restaurant in Danbury in 2000. After selling her restaurant and retiring in 2015, Gina dedicated her time to caring for her son.

Gina was predeceased by her son Victor in 2018. She is survived by her brother Ottavio Clarizio, sister Constance (John) Racanelli, grandchildren Niccolo and Gabriella Clarizio, nephew, John Racanelli and nieces Lisa Racanelli, Jennifer (David) Kalaminsky, Laura Clarizio. She is also survived by her extended family, dear friends and her beloved dog and faithful companion Benji.
Special thanks to her caregiver of many years, Aretha, for her loving care. Gina’s family would also like to offer their thanks to Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, Danbury.

Gina requested a celebration of life be held at St. Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Road in Bethel, with a Mass of Christian Burial, on Friday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m.

Burial after services will take place at St. Mary Cemetery. Following burial, all who loved Gina are invited to join her family for a reception at St. Mary Parish Hall, 26 Dodgingtown Road.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
