Immaculate High School in Danbury Hosts Career Day

Despite the delayed school opening due to snow and frigid weather, Immaculate High School, the premiere college prep school in Western Connecticut, hosted more than thirty professionals, including news anchor, Megan Mitchell, at its annual Career Day.

Mitchell, a 2010 graduate of Immaculate High School and currently the morning news nchor for NBC North Dakota News, made a special effort to visit the school and give an outstanding inspirational keynote presentation. She encouraged her captured audience to take advantage of the supportive system at Immaculate, be truly involved, make a difference in everything they do, and to fully commit to doing their best to achieve their dreams.

Mitchell’s post high school successes include being a co-host of a New England Emmy Award and Telly Award, being the executive producer and reporter for a news special on the Emmy Awards in Hollywood, and a reporter for MTVU’s Campus Dispatch. Mitchell received an EVVY Award for Outstanding Television Personality and an Associated Press Award for Best Documentary for her work on these productions.

Megan interned with MSNBC’s News Nation with Tamron Hall, MSNBC’s NOW with Alex Wagner, MTV’s Creative Production Department and Community Vision 21. In keeping with her Immaculate experience, Mitchell has been involved with community service by volunteering for the Big Sister program and with programs aimed at raising awareness for domestic violence.

Following the keynote address, approximately thirty career presenters, mostly successful Immaculate graduates with professional experience in medicine, law, finance, social work, architecture, education, law enforcement, engineering, non-profit management, technology, entertainment, communications and international business, spoke to students in small group sessions. Students had the opportunity to attend three sessions of their choice, providing them an opportunity to ask questions and discern their interests.

Event coordinator and 1987 graduate of IHS, Denise Suarez, says “Immaculate High School is fortunate to have the strong support of its alumni and other members of the Immaculate family. It was another great day to be a Mustang!”
