We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Bethel.

Rosie is a senior at Bethel high school. She has found a way to achieve in the classroom, on the track, with her songwriting, tutoring kids in town, at her job, and at home.

BETHEL, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Erin Volpintesta who nominated Rosie.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Rosie is a senior at Bethel high school. She has found a way to achieve in the classroom, on the track, with her songwriting, tutoring kids in town, at her job, and at home.

I personally think any kid who was able to get thru the heart of the craziness of the pandemic standing on two feet is a "star." Rosie, especially, took the pandemic isolation and depression head on. She built herself a homegrown high jump pit and found a way to keep her training moving forward.

When school eventually reopened she decided to take on the track Heptathlon and Pentathlon. (Hep having seven events:hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, 200m dash and 800m run). Her hard work took her to the USA Track and Field Jr Nationals this past summer in Sacramento where she got to compete with the best teen track athletes in the country.

In her sophomore year she started thinking how cool it would be to compete in track for the Ivy League. She found out what was needed academically and athletically for her to accomplish this created a plan.

Academically, she had to pile on the AP courses and get good grades in them, athletically she had to get faster and stronger.

This year she committed to her dream school of Brown University.

And somewhere in the wee hours she has found her therapy in writing songs and playing guitar. She formed a band called The Windaways with her pal on her street (Windaway Rd) and they currently play out in the local music scene.

She loves to tutor kids in math and is a peer leader/mentor at school. She also works weekends at a local fashion boutique in Brookfield where she loves to dabble in fashion styling.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

That she is an incredible songwriter and singer

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Rosie!
