Judge Rejects Plea Deal From Accused Killer of Bethel Woman

The accused killer offered 45 years. The family of the woman police say he murdered wanted life. The judge turned down both recommendations.

BETHEL, CT — A Bridgeport Superior Court judge rejected a 45-year plea offer from the Ohio man accused of shooting a Bethel woman, the Connecticut Post is reporting.

Police arrested Brandon Roberts, now 27, for the murder of 25-year-old Emily Todd in Bridgeport on Dec. 8, 2018. He also faces charges for felony murder, first-degree robbery and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Judge Joan Alexander also rejected the request made by the Todd's family for life without release, the Post reported. The judge she would present Roberts, who has been held on $2.5 million bond, with her own plea offer when the case is continued on March 11.

Police found Todd, a therapist at a Danbury senior center and 2011 graduate of Bethel High School, with a gunshot wound to the head lying face down in the sand along the shore on Dec. 9. Police say that Roberts lured Todd to the Bridgeport beach after she told him she was ending their relationship. Roberts confessed to killing Todd and to shooting another woman in Washington Park in 2017, according to police.
