Let's Go Outside!

Encouraging town residents to hike the many trails that are in Bethel

Whether you’re looking to lose weight, reduce emotional or physiological stress, or simply love the crispness of fall weather or are looking forward a free activity to do with your family or friends, the Bethel Land Trust invites to take advantage of the various walking trails that abound Bethel. Whether walking in Huntington and Putnam Parks or visiting the Wolfpit/Miller Preserves or the newly established Franc and Stephenson Preserves, there is a trail for every one, young and old.

We all spend too much time on computers, cell phones or simply indoors. Enjoying the many trails that Bethel offers encourages you to step away from your electronics and step back out into nature and allows you to rediscover the rhythms of the day and the changing of the seasons. Hiking is an unscripted experience where spontaneity is the rule.

We invite you to come outside to watch and experience the seasonal changes. You just missed the Fall bird migration. Some of us were lucky enough to see a Blue Indigo in the Franc Preserve or the Wood Ducks and Herons that use Mike’s Pond as a rest stop. What a wonderful sound we heard and sight of the Canadian Geese flying in their v-formation, honking away.

To date, a group of volunteers and the Boy Scouts have put in 230 hours to locate, build and mark a trail system in the Town’s Franc Preserve, ready for your exploration and enjoyment. The Wolpit Preserve too awaits for your visit as does Huntington and Putnam Parks.
