Letter To The Editor: 'Endorsing Dan Carter'
"Dan believes school control should remain local so communities can address their own challenges..."
I'm writing to endorse Dan Carter as representative for the 2nd district. In a recent mailer, Dan’s opponent made misleading statements about Dan’s voting record on important issues in his earlier tenure in the state legislature. Voters require truth, facts, and the correct context so they can make an informed voting decision.
For example, Dan looked out for utility ratepayers by backing SB-23 in 2012; which set standards for performance of utility companies and gave PURA greater oversight as well as the power to fine utilities.
In regards to his vote against PA13-3, the legislature’s 2013 gun control bill, Dan felt that the bill did not go far enough to address other issues to protect CT residents from further gun violence.

In terms of focusing on today - affordability and maintaining local control of our schools and zoning are issues that Dan has put front and center during his campaign.
Even prior to the pandemic, CT still had not recovered all of the jobs lost during the Great Recession. Post-pandemic, CT will need an even stronger recovery plan, one not built on the premise of higher taxes or other revenue-generating means. Dan is committed to making Connecticut more affordable through lower state and local property taxes.

Dan believes school control should remain local so communities can address their own challenges and expand on identified opportunities. Dan also believes communities should maintain local control of their zoning. They are in the best position to make those decisions. In addition, local control holds those decision-makers accountable to members of the community. What problems would be solved by taking this control away from our towns?
Dan is a veteran, small business owner, father, husband, and long-time CT resident. From his previous tenure in the CT state house, Dan has the experience to lead CT in the recovery of our post-COVID world and beyond. One-party rule has suffocated our state and inhibited its growth into the state it should be. Into the state it once was. It is time to return Dan Carter to the CT legislature on November 3rd, to help get us there.
