Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Marria Pooya, Founder & Visionary of Greenwich Medical Spa.

Patch: Tell us a bit about your business:
Marria Pooya: Greenwich Medical Spa is an award-winning, privately owned and woman-owned medical spa that has been helping patients look and feel their best for more than 20 years. Founded in 2005, GMS specializes in non-surgical aesthetics and medical wellness, with a philosophy centered around personalized care and natural-looking results that are never overdone.

While we’ve grown throughout CT, NY and NJ, we remain independently owned and almost entirely female-operated. Clinical excellence is at the heart of GMS, with extensive provider training focused on safety, advanced techniques and artistry.

We’re incredibly excited to open our eighth location at Plaza South this October and become part of the Newtown community. We look forward to getting to know our neighbors and serving patients throughout Newtown and the surrounding communities.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Marria Pooya:
Greenwich Medical Spa was founded in 2005 and has served the tri-state area for more than 20 years. Our eighth location opens at Plaza South in Newtown on October 6, 2026. Our Newtown location will be led by Nurse Practitioner Katie Kajtor, who is originally from Sandy Hook and is excited to bring the GMS experience to the community she calls home.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Marria Pooya:
I grew up as an immigrant from Afghanistan and, like many young women, struggled with insecurity about my appearance. As I got older, I discovered how something as simple as the right makeup, a facial or an aesthetic treatment could change not just how I looked, but how I felt and showed up in the world. That confidence carried into my career and became something I wanted other women to experience.

After studying Finance and International Business at NYU Stern, I worked on Wall Street covering beauty and consumer companies and later joined a cosmetics startup. Those experiences ultimately brought together my business background and my belief in the transformative power of confidence, leading me to establish Greenwich Medical Spa in 2005. More than 20 years later, that belief still shapes everything we do at GMS.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Marria Pooya:
The advice I give most often is not to chase trends or treatments. Think about your goals and how you want to feel, then find a provider you truly trust to guide you. The best aesthetic care should be personalized to you and focused on creating results that feel natural and authentic.

At GMS, we always say the best work shouldn't announce itself. You should still look like you, just refreshed and confident. Sometimes that means recommending a different treatment than someone originally came in asking for, and sometimes it means telling them they don't need a treatment at all. Building that kind of trust with our patients has always been at the heart of The GMS Way.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Marria Pooya:
The most satisfying part is seeing the impact we've been able to have on women, both the patients we serve and the women who have built their careers at GMS. There is nothing better than seeing a patient leave feeling more confident, refreshed, and like herself.

But after more than 20 years, I'm equally proud of the team we've built. Watching incredibly talented women grow into clinicians, leaders and mentors, build careers they’re proud of and then help other women feel their best is incredibly rewarding. What started as one location in Greenwich has grown into something so much bigger than I ever imagined, and knowing we've been able to positively impact so many lives along the way is probably the most satisfying part of all.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Marria Pooya:
I believe what truly distinguishes GMS is our clinical expertise, the experience we create for our patients and the standards we've held for more than 20 years.

We're relentless about education and training. Our providers receive extensive training beyond their clinical education, and our range of technologies allows us to create personalized treatment plans focused on beautiful, natural-looking results.

Then there's The GMS Way: exceptional service, authentic relationships, honesty and integrity at every step. Sometimes that means telling a patient “no.” We won't recommend a treatment we don't believe is right for them, and we don't introduce treatments until we've thoroughly vetted them for safety and results.

That philosophy has helped GMS become a Top 50 BOTOX® and JUVÉDERM® provider in the U.S., with 20,000+ 4.8+ star patient reviews. But what matters most is earning our patients' trust and delivering an experience and results they can count on.
