Due to today's press release, there are likely to be traffic jams shortly, especially since the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is on June 13-14 at the Bethel High School Track, and the Bethel Middle School Graduation and Party is on June 19, and probably many other end-of-school events too, and Greenwood Avenue will be closed at the railroad crossing, and Taylor Avenue after that. Wouldn't the timing have been better if they started these projects after major events were over?
PRESS RELEASE from First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker's office, June 2, 2014:
(Bethel, June 2, 2014) State Department of Transportation officials today informed the Town that two key railroad crossings will be closed to all traffic for one week each during the month of June, for maintenance and repairs designed to restore proper operation of the railroad crossing gates.
The Greenwood Avenue railroad crossing will be closed beginning on Friday, June 13th, shortly after the morning rush hour, and is expected to remain closed through 4:00pm on Thursday, June 19th.
The Taylor Avenue crossing will be closed for repairs after the morning rush on Friday, June 27th through Wednesday, July 2nd.
Signage at each location will be posted about one week in advance of each of the two closures.
No vehicular traffic will be able to cross at either location during the shutdowns.
Residents and businesses are strongly urged to plan ahead, leave additional time in your morning and afternoon commutes and inform customers in advance.
