Wayne Winsley, former radio broadcaster turned motivational speaker is on a mission to inspire kids in Bethel and surrounding towns.
He has committed to do 5,000 push-ups at area Dunkin Donuts in 30 days as a way to encourage young people to succeed and reach their goals.
“I was looking for different places to do push-ups and asked permission to do so at the 4 Corners location in Brookfield. The owner reviewed the Brave Enough to Fail website and offered all 14 locations in the Greater Danbury area, including Brewster, Mahopac and Carmel. This includes permission to use the Dunkin’ Donuts logo and promote the fact that I’m doing push-ups at those locations. So in a fact, Dunkin’ Donuts is hosting 5000 push-ups in 30 days to #InspireKids,” Winsley told Patch.

Why push-ups? “Doing 5000 push-ups in 30 days is a pretty hard goal but one that is worthwhile boat for the individual doing the push-ups, and it’s a symbol for those we wish to inspire,” Winsley told Patch.
By doing 5,000 push-ups in 30 days he hopes to raise both funds and awareness for Brave Enough to Fail’s programs. Winsley wishes to launch a leadership development program in January which available to students from New Milford, Brookfield, Danbury and Bethel.

“Even the advantaged student might lack inspiration and motivation to achieve. Disadvantaged students may lack inspiration and motivation because they don’t see a way out of their circumstances,” Winsley stated.
“Doing the push-ups provides a clear and easily understood example of setting a high goal and putting in the hard work and dedication that it takes to achieve it.”
Winsley founded Brave Enough to Fail in 2012 as a pilot program to help narrow the educational achievement gap and to help all students.
In May of 2011 Winsley was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He had surgery that September and began his campaign for U.S. Congress in Connecticut’s 3rd District. “I lost the election to incumbent Rosa DeLauro but I won my big battle, I’m cancer-free today,” Winsley said.
