Neighbors of Burned Home Want House Razed
The Bethel home was damaged in a fire last June that officials say was intentionally set by the homeowner who died in the blaze.

The neighbors of a house damaged in a fatal fire are claiming that the property poses health and safety concerns, according to the News Times.
The house is located at 43 Castle Hill Drive and was damaged in a fire last June that officials say was intentionally set by the homeowner, Edward Bruce. The 56-year-old Bethel man died in the fire.
The town attorney, Martin Lawlor, told the News Times that the house can not be demolished because “nobody knows who this gentleman’s next of kin is.”

Neighbors fear falling debris could injure their children and have complained to the town.
Bethel’s anti-blight laws states that a house is considered dilapidated when “any building or structure or swimming pool or any part thereof, that would not qualify for a certificate of compliance/ occupancy, or which is deemed an unsafe structure, and any dwelling or unit which is designated as unfit for habitation as defined in the State Basic Building Code and the Ordinances/Code of the Town of Bethel.”
