New Opioid Public Awareness Campaign Launched In CT

"Change the Script" seeks to change the perception of opioid abuse in Connecticut.

HARTFORD, CT — The State of Connecticut launched a new public awareness campaign called "Change the Script" to highlight the problem of opioid abuse in the state.

The educational campaign focuses on prevention, treatment and recovery. It also seeks to change public perception about addiction to that of a chronic disease instead of a choice.

Connecticut saw more than 1,000 overdose deaths in 2017, the majority of which are opioid-related.

“Opioid addiction and prescription drug misuse is a disease that is impacting nearly every community and people of every background,” said Governor Dannel Malloy. “It is a complex crisis that does not have one root cause, nor does it have simple solution, but we need to do everything in our power to treat and prevent it."

Ready-to-use campaign materials are being distributed to local health departments, prevention councils, healthcare providers, pharmacists and other partners.
