Obituary: Thomas J. Craughwell​, 61, of Bethel

He was a recognized expert on the Roman Catholic Church and had appeared on CNN and other news shows.

BETHEL, CT -- Thomas J. Craughwell, age 61 of Bethel, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. He was born in Chicago, IL, on July 11, 1956, and had previously resided in Hawthorne, NJ.

A graduate of Montclair State University, and New York University, Tom was the author of more than 35 non-fiction books including Stealing Lincoln's Body and Thomas Jefferson's Crème Brulee. He was a recognized expert on the Roman Catholic Church and had appeared on CNN and other news shows.

Tom is survived by his parents, Ambrose and Marilyn Craughwell, his sisters, Karen Jefferys and Kathleen Craughwell-Varda (John), and his niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Nathanial Varda.

Funeral will be departing at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18 from the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, for a 9:30 a.m. funeral mass at St. Anthony's R.C. Church, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
