A letter to the editor by Phil Gallagher:

To the Editor:

“Republican Will Duff is the only candidate in this year’s election, for the Bethel Board of Selectman, from either political party who opposed the sale of Bethel’s town owned water utility to a foreign owned company. All of the rest of the current candidates voted in favor of the Knickerbocker administration’s bizarre but dangerous proposal to sell for a pittance two reservoirs, an aquafier, 34 miles of water pipe and 470 acres of watershed land to an Australian owned company that given its history would have several cell phone towers sitting on the property by now.

This one act of civic mindedness in and of itself should make Bethel Republicans and indeed all Bethel voters give serious consideration to casting a vote for Will Duff for the office of Bethel’s first selectman. Will Duff knows Bethel and he knows and understands government because he has been both a Selectman and a Board of Education member.

I know he understands how Bethel’s government works because I served with him on the Board of Selectman and saw that a lot thought and deliberation went into what he had to say and how he voted on town budgets and town issues. Will Duff is a man who throughout his life has shown immense personal courage.

He is also an individual of very calm demeanor. He treats all with great courtesy and respect and never with anger and temper tantrums. I am looking forward to voting for Will Duff for first selectman in the Republican primary and in the general election on November 3.”
