Rebecca Jones Takes 13th in Class S Finals

Jones was the only diver for Bethel who competed on Wednesday.

This Wednesday in Plainville, the Class S State trials and finals for diving saw Bethel's Rebecca Jones taking 13th place with a score of 222.45.

Jones finishes her first year of competitive diving with an amazing season: Bethel High School record for dual meet dives (6 dives) with 168.45 set against New Milford and the Bethel High School record for post-season diving (11 dives) with 232.70 set at the Splash Invitational meet.

Rebecca took right first place finishes in the Wildcats eleven meets, including a first at Weston in which two of their divers competed as well at the Class S championship (Dean Rapp finished eighth with 284.65 and Misha Moffly finished 14th with 215.40).

"Rebecca had a great season. She's a strong competitor and will have a great two more years with our team," Coach Tate Rogers said, "Today, she still had trouble with one dive, but she nailed so many today, it was great to see. Class S is the strongest for diving, having Stephen Ettienne from Sacred Heart; he's a future Olympian finishing with 612 points while other top divers are in the low 400's. He's worth a trip to see at the State Open for any Connecticut sports fan. Today Sacred Heart's legendary coach Snyder shared some advice with Rebecca too, that was special."

The BHS Swim team finishes their season with Class S State Trials this Saturday at Planville and then finishing up with the State Finals on Wednesday at Wesleyan University.
