Redding Man Arrested for DUI in Bethel is a Repeat Offender

A Redding man was charged with DUI in Bethel on Oct. 31, 2015, but this was not the first time he has faced this charge.

A Redding man who was observed by police for making a turn onto railroad tracks on Greenwood Ave. was arrested on Oct. 31, 2015 at 2 a.m. for driving under the influence.

Kyle Colacicco, 27, of Redding, was observed by Bethel Police as having glassy eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcohol on his breath after he was pulled over, according to a police report. He failed two field sobriety tests, was arrested and released after paying a $500 bond.

Court records show that Colacicco was arrested twice before for operating under the influence.

On April 9, 2010 he was stopped by Redding Police and was charged with Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs. He was sentenced to 6 months jail, execution suspended after 60 days, probation 2 years.

Just six months later on Oct. 17, 2010 he was stopped by Bethel Police and was charged with Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs. He was sentenced to 6 months jail, execution suspended after 60 days, probation 2 years.

On July 1, 2015, Connecticut enacted a new law to curb drunk driving by giving no second chances to first-time offenders. The new law requires all DUI offenders to install an ignition interlock device in their car. In 2012, Connecticut mandated only repeat offenders to install the device, according to the Insurance Journal.

Colacicco is due in Danbury Superior Court on Nov. 9 to answer to the charge.
