Update: One Worker Fell During Roof Collapse in Bethel

The collapse was reported in the building that houses Skyzone.

One worker fell and refused treatment during the roof collapse reported in Bethel earlier today.

According to the Bethel Fire Marshal’s office, the Bethel Fire Department responded to the scene at around 12:15 p.m. today for the report of the roof collapse. At the time, officials believed one person was trapped inside the building, however upon arrival it was confirmed that the person was outside the building.

The portion of the roof that collapses was at Mariano Brothers Storage, adjacent to Skyzone.

At the time of the roof collapse, the building owner was present on the scene along with contractors who were working with a structural engineer to determine the roof integrity due to some concerns in one section, the Fire Marshal’s office said. The utilities were turned off prior to the roof collapse by the building owner.

Bethel Building Official Gary Boughton responded to the scene as well and the scene has since been turned over to the building owner. At this time, all occupants and businesses in the building are not allowed to enter until the building is made safe.

According to the Fire Marshal’s office, a different portion of this building did collapse from snow loads in 2011 and was rebuilt however this was not the same section of the building that collapsed this time.
