State Rep. David Scribner Resigns to Accept Consumer Protection Post

Scribner has represented Bethel, Brookfield and Danbury as State Pepresentative since 1999.

State Rep. David Scribner told PAtch Thursday that he was contacted at 5 p.m. Tuesday from the Governor’s office and offered a position as a Commissioner within the Department of Consumer Protection, Liquor Control Division.

Scribner completed his eighth term on Tuesday and submitted his resignation as State Representative.


“I am honored to receive the appointment from the Governor. I look forward to serve the residents of CT in the Executive branch. It has been a great honor and privilege to serve the people of the 107th District for 16 years and to be overwhelmingly elected by them nine times,”Scribner said.

Some of Scribner’s accomplishments include:

  • Improve the quality of life for so many in Connecticut
  • Saving Candlewood Lake rom deregulation
  • Obtaining authorization to establish Cardiac Care at Danbury Hospital
  • Getting regulatory changes to allow Regional Hospice to build an in-patient facility
  • Secured $1.2 million for construction-Route 7 bypass
  • Built and completed ($100 million)-many improvements to the Danbury to Norwalk branch line of Metro North including $2 million to expand parking at the Bethel Station
  • Expansion of the Senior Center in Brookfield
  • Expansion of the Library in Bethel
  • Many Small Town Economic Assistance Program Grants for economic Development projects in Brookfield & in Bethel (approx. $10 million)
  • Authored all of the states Teen Driving restrictions

HARTFORD- State Representative David Scribner (R-Brookfield) announced that he will not be sworn in as the state legislature convenes for the 2015-17 term in order to accept an appointment from Governor Dannel P. Malloy to serve as a Commissioner in the Department of Consumer Protection. Scribner, who was recently re-elected to his house seat representing the 107th District, was first elected in a special election in 1999.

“I have cherished every moment of my service in the State House of Representatives, and I can’t overstate how much it has meant to me to have been entrusted by the residents of the 107th District over the years to represent them in Hartford, “ said Scribner. “I thank the Governor for his faith in me for this new post. I am looking forward to the new set of challenges that will accompany my new responsibilities, and I am grateful for this opportunity to continue my public service in a new and exciting way.”

Scribner submitted a letter to the Secretary of the State resigning his seat as a Representative-Elect. Governor Dannel P. Malloy will be required to call a special election at a future date to fill the vacancy created by the resignation.
