Bethel residents Roxanne Doyon, JoAnn Sainz, and Gabrielle Rudolph once again secured their World Champion and runner-up titles in the Black Belt divisions. Gabrielle Rudolph not only won the title for Overall Grand Champion in traditional forms, she also made National Sport Karate history, winning the number one spot on stage for women's overall traditional forms champion. This event pulled competitors from all over the world. Gabrielle had to beat all competitors in her age division, then beat all first place competitors from various styles of martial arts, then beat all the first place winners over the age of 18. It was a huge win for her that left her making history. This event took place in Chicago, Ill on January 11-13th. Roxanne Doyon, Gabrielle's mother, won her title of World Champion for the third consecutive year. She attributes her win to her husband and coach Steven Doyon. together they run and operate Connecticut Martial Arts, located in the Berkshire Plaza, Danbury. JoAnn Sainz,mother to Roxanne and grandmother to Gabrielle, won runner-up in the 60 and above division. Competing against women much younger and holding her high rank. This mother, daughter, ang granddaughter team are an inspiration to all ages proving that one can do anything they set their mind on.
