Transcendent Tchaikovsky!

Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra Open Season on October 3rd with ROMANTIC RUSSIANS

The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra opens its 2015-16 Season on October 3rd, 2015, 8:00 pm, at Ridgefield High School Auditorium with some of the finest- and best loved- works from 19th Century Russia!

Featured on October 3rd is Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony, one of the composer’s greatest- and most popular- compositions. With some of the composer’s most beautiful, lilting melodies and suffused with a rare grace, it also is a work filled with drama, vigor and passion… truly transcendent Tchaikovsky, ending in a blaze of powerful brass! And Borodin’s atmospheric Polovtsian Dances is the perfect compliment, sensuous with a slightly exotic touch, with the melodies made famous through their use in the Broadway show Kismet!

And as an interlude, Mendelssohn’s virtuosic First Piano Concerto with soloist Jason Hardink. Written in three days by a composer smitten by the beauty of a young baroness, it is full of energy and excitement and truly tests the abilities of the finest of pianists.
